ପୁଡୁଚେରୀ ଭାରତର ଏକ କେନ୍ଦ୍ରଶାସିତ ଅଞ୍ଚଳ । ୧୭୬୧, ଜାନୁଆରୀ ୧୬ରେ ଫରାସୀଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଇଂରେଜମାନେ ପଣ୍ଡିଚେରୀକୁ ଅଧିକୃତ କରିଥିଲେ । ଦେଶ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନ ହେବା ପରେ ଏହାକୁ ଏକ କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ଶାସିତ ଅଞ୍ଚଳ ଭାବେ ଘୋଷଣା କରାଯାଇଥିଲା । ୨୦୦୬ ସେପ୍ଟେମ୍ବରରେ ଏହାର ନାମକୁ ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ କରି ପୁଡୁଚେରୀ (ତାମିଲ ଭାଷାରେ ଅର୍ଥ- ନୂଆ ଗ୍ରାମ) ରଖାଗଲା । ପୁଡୁଚେରୀକୁ ଏକ ସ୍ୱତନ୍ତ୍ର ମାନ୍ୟତା ଦିଆଯାଇଛି, ଫଳରେ ସ୍ୱତନ୍ତ୍ର ରାଜ୍ୟ ନ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏଠାରେ ଏକ ବିଧାନ ସଭା ରହିଛି । କିଛି କିଛି ସ୍ୱତନ୍ତ୍ର କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଆଇନ ତିଆରି କରିବା ବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥା ମଧ୍ୟ ଏଥିରେ ରହିଛି। ୤
