ମେଥୋଟ୍ରେକ୍ସେଟ (ଇଂରାଜୀ ଭାଷାରେ Methotrexate ବା MTX, ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଜଣାଥିବା ନାମ amethopterin), ଏକ କେମୋଥେରାପି ଔଷଧ (chemotherapy agent) ଓ ଇମ୍ମ୍ୟୁନ ସିସ୍ଟମ ସପ୍ରେସାଣ୍ଟ (immune system suppressant) ।^[୧] ଆଗରୁ ଏହି ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ରୋଗ ଯଥା:- କର୍କଟ, ଅଟୋଇମ୍ମ୍ୟୁନ ଡିଜିଜ, ଅଥାନ ଗର୍ଭ ଓ ଡାକ୍ତରୀ ଗର୍ଭପାତ ସକାଶେ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାର କରାଯାଉଥିଲା । ଏହାଦ୍ୱାରା ଚିକିତ୍ସା ହେଉଥିବା କର୍କଟ ରୋଗମାନଙ୍କର ନାମ: ସ୍ତନ କର୍କଟ, ଲିଉକେମିଆ, ଫୁସଫୁସ କର୍କଟ, ଲିମ୍ଫୋମା ଓ ଓସ୍ଟିଓସାର୍କୋମା (osteosarcoma) । ଅଟୋଇମ୍ମ୍ୟୁନ ରୋଗମାନଙ୍କର ନାମ: ସୋରିଆସିସ, ରିଉମାଟଏଡ ଆର୍ଥ୍ରାଇଟିସ ଓ କ୍ରନ୍ ରୋଗ । ଏ ଔଷଧ ଉଭୟ ପାଟିରେ ବା ଇଞ୍ଜେକସନ ଆକାରରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୧]

ସାଧାରଣ ପାର୍ଶ୍ୱ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟାରେ ଅଇ, ଥକ୍କା, ଜ୍ୱର, ସଂକ୍ରମଣ ସଙ୍କଟ, ଲିଉକୋପିନିଆ ବା ସ୍ୱଳ୍ପ ଶ୍ୱେତ ରକ୍ତ କଣିକା (low white blood cell counts) ଓ ଅଲସରେଟିଭ ସ୍ଟୋମାଟାଇଟିସ (breakdown of the skin inside the mouth) ଇତ୍ୟାଦି ଅସୁବିଧା ଦେଖାଯାଏ । ଯକୃତ ରୋଗ (liver disease), ଫୁସଫୁସ ରୋଗ (lung disease, ଲିମ୍ଫୋମା ଓ ସାଂଘାତିକ ଚର୍ମ ରାସ ହୁଏ । ଦୀର୍ଘ କାଳ ଧରି ଚିକିତ୍ସିତ ହେଉଥିବା ରୋଗୀର ନିୟମିତ ପାର୍ଶ୍ୱ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟା ଅନୁଶୀଳନ ଆବଶ୍ୟକ ହୁଏ । ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ (breastfeeding) ସମୟରେ ଏହା ନିରାପଦ ନୁହେଁ । ବୃକ୍‌କ ରୋଗ (kidney problem) ଥିଲେ ଅଳ୍ପ ମାତ୍ରାର ଔଷଧ ଦିଆଯାଏ । ଦେହର ଫୋଲିକ ଏସିଡ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାରକୁ ଏହା ଅବରୋଧ କରେ । ^[୧]

ମେଥୋଟ୍ରେକ୍ସେଟ ପ୍ରଥମେ ସନ ୧୯୪୭ରେ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତ ହୋଇ କର୍କଟ ରୋଗ ନିମନ୍ତେ ବ୍ୟ‌ବ‌ହାର କରାଗଲା କାରଣ ସେତେବେଳେ ଏହାର ପାର୍ଶ୍ୱ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟା ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ଔଷଧମାନଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଅଳ୍ପ ଥିଲା ।^[୭] ଏହାର ନାମ ବିଶ୍ୱ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସଂଗଠନର ଅତ୍ୟାବଶ୍ୟକୀୟ ଔଷଧ ଚିଠାରେ ଅଛି ଯାହା ମୌଳିକ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସିସ୍ଟମ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଅତି ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ।^[୮] ଏହା ଜେନେରିକ ଔଷଧ ନାମରେ ଉପଲବ୍‌ଧ ହୁଏ ।^[୧] ବିକାଶଶୀଳ ଦେଶମାନଙ୍କରେ ପାଟିରେ ଦିଆଯାଉଥିବା ଏହି ଔଷଧର ହୋଲସେଲ ମୂଲ୍ୟ ଦୈନିକ ୦.୬ରୁ ୦.୩୬ ଆମେରିକୀୟ ଡଲାର ।^[୯] ଯୁକ୍ତରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର ଆମେରିକାରେ ଏହାର ମାସକୁ ଖର୍ଚ୍ଚ ୨୫ରୁ ୫୦ ଡଲାର ।^[୧୦]
