ତେଲୁଗୁ, ଭାରତୀୟ ରାଜ୍ୟ ଆନ୍ଧ୍ରପ୍ରଦେଶତେଲେଙ୍ଗାନାର ବାସିନ୍ଦାମାନଙ୍କର ଏକ ଦ୍ରାବିଡ଼ ଭାଷା ଅଟେ, ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ଏହା ସରକାରୀ ଭାଷା ମଧ୍ୟ ଅଟେ । ପାଖାପାଖି ୯୬ ନିୟୁତ ଲୋକ (୨୦୨୨ ମସିହା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ)ଙ୍କଦ୍ୱାରା କହୁଥିବା ତେଲୁଗୁ ଭାଷା ପରିବାରର ସର୍ବାଧିକ କଥିତ ସଦସ୍ୟ ଏବଂ ଭାରତୀୟ ଗଣତନ୍ତ୍ରର ୨୨ଟି ଅନୁସୂଚିତ ଭାଷା ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଅନ୍ୟତମ ।[୭] ହିନ୍ଦୀବଙ୍ଗଳା ବ୍ୟତୀତ ଏକାଧିକ ଭାରତୀୟ ରାଜ୍ୟରେ ପ୍ରାଥମିକ ସରକାରୀ ମାନ୍ୟତା ପାଇଥିବା ଅଳ୍ପ କେତେକ ଭାଷା ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଏହା ଅନ୍ୟତମ ।[୮] ତେଲୁଗୁ ଭାରତ ସରକାରଙ୍କଦ୍ୱାରା ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀୟ ଭାଷା ଭାବରେ ମନୋନୀତ ଛଅଟି ଭାଷା ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଅନ୍ୟତମ । ଏହା ପୃଥିବୀର ୧୪ତମ ସର୍ବାଧିକ କଥିତ ମାତୃଭାଷା ଅଟେ ।[୯] ଆଧୁନିକ ମାନକ ତେଲୁଗୁ ଉପକୂଳ ଆନ୍ଧ୍ରର କ୍ରିଷ୍ଣା-ଗୋଦାବରୀ ତ୍ରିକୋଣଭୂମୀ ଅଞ୍ଚଳର ଉପଭାଷା ଉପରେ ଆଧାରିତ ।[୧୦][୧୧][୧୨]

ତେଲୁଗୁ ଭାଷା କର୍ଣ୍ଣାଟକ, ତାମିଲନାଡୁ, ମହାରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର, ଛତିଶଗଡ଼ ଏବଂ କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ଶାସିତ ଅଞ୍ଚଳ ପୁଡୁଚେରୀ ଏବଂ ଆଣ୍ଡାମାନ ଓ ନିକୋବର ଦ୍ୱୀପପୁଞ୍ଜରେ ମଧ୍ୟ କହାଯାଏ । ଯୁକ୍ତରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର ଆମେରିକା, ଅଷ୍ଟ୍ରେଲିଆ, ମାଲେସିଆ, ମରିସସ, ୟୁଏଇ, ସାଉଦି ଆରବ ଏବଂ ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ଦେଶରେ ଥିବା ତେଲୁଗୁ ପ୍ରବାସୀମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହି ଭାଷା କହୁଛନ୍ତି ।[୧୩][୧୪] ଯୁକ୍ତରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର ଆମେରିକାରେ ତେଲୁଗୁ ଭାଷା ଦ୍ରୁତ ଗତିରେ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ପାଉଥିବା ଭାଷା ଅଟେ ।[୧୫] ଏହା ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ଆଫ୍ରିକାର ଏକ ସଂରକ୍ଷିତ ଭାଷା ଏବଂ କ୍ୱାଜୁଲୁ-ନାଟାଲ ପ୍ରଦେଶର ବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟଗୁଡ଼ିକରେ ଏକ ବିକଳ୍ପ ତୃତୀୟ ଭାଷା ଭାବରେ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଏ ।[୧୬][୧୭]

ମିଖାଇଲ୍ ଏସ୍ ଆଣ୍ଡ୍ରୋନୋଭଙ୍କ ଅନୁଯାୟୀ, ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟପୂର୍ବ ୧୦ ବେଳକୁ ତେଲୁଗୁ ପ୍ରୋଟୋ-ଦ୍ରାବିଡ଼ ଭାଷାରୁ ଅଲଗା ହୋଇଥିଲା।[୧୮] ତେଲୁଗୁ ଶବ୍ଦ ଥିବା ପ୍ରାରମ୍ଭିକ ଶିଳାଲେଖ ଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟପୂର୍ବ ୪୦୦ ମସିହାରେ ଆନ୍ଧ୍ରପ୍ରଦେଶର ଭଟ୍ଟିପ୍ରୋଲୁଠାରେ ଅବସ୍ଥିତ ।[୧୯] ସମ୍ରାଟ ଅଶୋକ (ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟପୂର୍ବ ୨୫୭), ସାତବାହନ ଓ ବିଷ୍ଣୁକୁଣ୍ଡିନାସଙ୍କ ଶିଳାଲେଖରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ତେଲୁଗୁ ଶବ୍ଦ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିଥିଲା ।[୨୦] ପୁରୁଣା ତେଲୁଗୁ ଲିପିରେ ଥିବା ଶିଳାଲେଖ ଇଣ୍ଡୋନେସିଆ ଓ ମିଆଁମାରଠାରୁ ବହୁ ଦୂରରେ ମିଳିଥିଲା । ତେଲୁଗୁ ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ଭାରତର ବିଭିନ୍ନ ରାଜବଂଶ ଯଥା କାକଟିଆ, ବିଜୟନଗର ସାମ୍ରାଜ୍ୟ, ପୂର୍ବ ଚାଲୁକ୍ୟ, ପୂର୍ବ ଗଙ୍ଗା, କୁତୁବ ସାହି, ମଦୁରାଇ ନାୟକ, ତଞ୍ଜାଭୁର ନାୟକମାନଙ୍କର ଅଦାଲତଭାଷା ଥିଲା ।[୨୧] ତାମିଲନାଡୁର ତଞ୍ଜାଭୁର ମରାଠାଙ୍କ ଭଳି ଅଣ-ତେଲୁଗୁ ରାଜବଂଶମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ତେଲୁଗୁକୁ ନିଜ ମାତୃଭୂମି ବାହାରେ ଅମଲାତନ୍ତ୍ରର ଭାଷା ଭାବରେ ଆନୁଷ୍ଠାନିକ ଭାବରେ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରୁଥିଲେ ।[୨୨]

ତେଲୁଗୁର ଏକ ହଜାର ବର୍ଷରୁ ଅଧିକ ସମୟର ଏକ ଅଖଣ୍ଡ, ବିଶାଳ ଏବଂ ବିବିଧ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ପରମ୍ପରା ରହିଛି ।[୨୩] ପାବୁଲୁରି ମଲ୍ଲାନାଙ୍କ ସାର ସାଙ୍ଗରାହା ଗଣିତାମୁ (ଏକାଦଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀ) କୌଣସି ଦ୍ରାବିଡ଼ ଭାଷାରେ ଗଣିତ ଉପରେ ପ୍ରଥମ ବୈଜ୍ଞାନିକ ଗ୍ରନ୍ଥ ଅଟେ ।[୨୪] ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ସ୍ମୃତି ଶକ୍ତି ଏବଂ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଓ ପ୍ରୋସୋଡି ବିଷୟରେ ଗଭୀର ଜ୍ଞାନର ଆବଶ୍ୟକତା ଥିବା ଏକ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ପରିବେଷଣ 'ଅବଧାନ' ପାଞ୍ଚ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀରୁ ଅଧିକ ସମୟ ଧରି ତେଲୁଗୁ କବିମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ବିଶେଷ ଭାବରେ ଚାଷ କରାଯାଉଥିଲା ।[୨୫] ତେଲୁଗୁ ଭାଷାରେ ପ୍ରାୟ ୧୦,୦୦୦ ପ୍ରାକ୍-ଉପନିବେଶିକ ଶିଳାଲେଖ ରହିଛି ।[୨୬]

ପ୍ରାକ୍ ଔପନିବେଶିକ ଯୁଗରେ ତେଲୁଗୁ ସମଗ୍ର ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ଭାରତରେ ଉଚ୍ଚ ସଂସ୍କୃତିର ଭାଷା ପାଲଟିଥିଲା । ବିଜୟା ରାମାସ୍ୱାମୀ ଏହାକୁ ପ୍ରାୟ ସମାନ ଯୁଗରେ ଆଧୁନିକ ୟୁରୋପର ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ ଭାଷା ଭାବରେ ଫ୍ରାନ୍ସର ଅତ୍ୟଧିକ ଆଧିପତ୍ୟ ସହିତ ତୁଳନା କରିଥିଲେ ।[୨୭] ଭାରତୀୟ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀୟ ସଙ୍ଗୀତର ଦୁଇଟି ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଉପଧାରା ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଗୋଟିଏ କର୍ଣ୍ଣାଟକ ସଙ୍ଗୀତର ବିକାଶରେ ତେଲୁଗୁ ପ୍ରାଧାନ୍ୟ ଲାଭ କରିଥାଏ ଏବଂ କର୍ଣ୍ଣାଟକ ପରମ୍ପରା ଉପରେ ଧ୍ୟାନ ଦେଇ ସଙ୍ଗୀତ ମହାବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟରେ ବ୍ୟାପକ ଭାବରେ ଶିକ୍ଷା ଦିଆଯାଏ । ଶତାବ୍ଦୀ ଧରି ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଅଣ-ତେଲୁଗୁ ଲୋକମାନେ ତେଲୁଗୁ ଭାଷଣର ପ୍ରାକୃତିକ ସଙ୍ଗୀତତା ଉପରେ ମନ୍ତବ୍ୟ ଦେଇ ଏହାକୁ ଏକ ମଧୁର ଏବଂ ଆକର୍ଷଣୀୟ ଭାଷା ଭାବରେ ଉଲ୍ଲେଖ କରିଛନ୍ତି ।[୨୮]
