କୁସୁମ (ଉଦ୍ଭିଦ ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ନାମ Carthamus tinctorius କାର୍ଥାମସ ଟିଂଟୋରିୟସ) ହେଉଛି ଏକ ବହୁଶାଶା ଯୁକ୍ତ ଗୁଳ୍ମ ଜାତୀୟ, ସପୁଷ୍ପକ, ଦ୍ୱୀବୀଜପତ୍ରୀ, ବର୍ଷଜୀବୀ ଉଦ୍ଭିଦ। ସଂସ୍କୃତ ଭାଷାରେ ଏହାକୁ କସୁମ୍ଭ ବୋଲି କୁହାଯାଏ। ଏହି ଗଛର ମଞ୍ଜିରୁ ତେଲ ଆହରଣ କରିବାପାଇଁ ମୁଖ୍ୟତଃ ଏହାକୁ ଚାଷ କରାଯାଏ। ଏହି ଗଛ ୩୦ ରୁ ୫୦ ସେଣ୍ଟିମିଟର ଉଚ୍ଚତା ବିଶିଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇଥାଏ। ଏହାର ଫୁଲ ହଳଦିଆ, କମଳା ବା ଲାଲ ରଙ୍ଗର ହୋଇଥାଏ। ଏହି ଗଛର ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଶାଖାରେ ୧ ରୁ ୫ଟି ଯାଏ ଫୁଲ ହୋଇଥାଏ ଓ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଫୁଲରେ ୧୫ରୁ ୨୦ଟି ଲେଖାଁ ମଂଜି ରହିଥାଏ।

ଏହି ଗଛର ମଂଜି ଓ ଫୁଲ ମୁଖ୍ୟତଃ କାମରେ ଲାଗିଥାଏ. [୨]
ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ଭାବରେ ଏହାର ମଂଜି ପାଇବାପାଇଁ ଏହାକୁ ଅମଳ କରାଯାଉଥିଲା। ଏହାର ମଂଜିକୁ ଖାଦ୍ୟଦ୍ରବ୍ୟକୁ ସୁଦୃଶ୍ୟ ଓ ସୁଗନ୍ଧିତ କରିବାପାଇଁ, ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଔଷଧିରେ ଓ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପ୍ରକାରର ରଂଗ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତିରେ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରା ଯାଉଥିଲା। [୩] ବିଗତ ପ୍ରାୟ ୫ ଦଶନ୍ଧି ଧରି ଏହି ଗଛକୁ ମୁଖ୍ୟତଃ ବନସ୍ପତି ତେଲ ପାଇଁ ଉତ୍ପାଦନ କରା ଯାଉଅଛି।
