ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ନାଇଟ୍ରାଇଟ (ଇଂରାଜୀ ଭାଷାରେSodium nitrite) ଏକ ଔଷଧ ଭାବରେ ସାଇନାଇଡ ବିଷକ୍ରିୟାର ଚିକିତ୍ସାରେ ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ଥାୟୋସଲଫେଟ ସ‌ହିତ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୧] କେବଳ ସାଂଘାତିକ ସାଇନାଇଡ ବିଷକ୍ରିୟାରେ ଏହା ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୨] ଉଭୟ ସାଇନାଇଡ ବିଷକ୍ରିୟା ଓ କାର୍ବନ ମୋନୋକ୍ସାଇଡ ବିଷକ୍ରିୟା (carbon monoxide poisoning) ବିଷକ୍ରିୟା ଥିଲେ କେବଳ ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ଥାୟୋସଲଫେଟ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୩] ଶିରାଭ୍ୟନ୍ତର ଇଞ୍ଜେକସନ (slow injection into a vein) ଆକାରରେ ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ନାଇଟ୍ରାଇଟ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୧]

ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ନାଇଟ୍ରାଇଟର ପାର୍ଶ୍ୱ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟାରେ ନିମ୍ନ ରକ୍ତଚାପ (low blood pressure), ମୁଣ୍ଡବଥା, ଅଣନିଶ୍ୱାସୀ (shortness of breath), ଅଚେତନ (loss of consciousness) ଓ ବାନ୍ତି ହୋଇପାରେ ।^[୧] ଅନ୍ତର୍ନିହିତ ଦୃଦ୍‌ରୋଗ ଥିଲେ ସତର୍କ ହୋଇ ଏହି ଔଷଧ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୧] ଚିକିତ୍ସା ଅବଧିରେ ମେଥେମୋଗ୍ଲୋବିନ (methemoglobin) ସ୍ତର ନିୟମିତ ଯାଞ୍ଚ କରିବାକୁ ହୁଏ ।^[୧] ଗର୍ଭାବସ୍ଥାରେ କିଛି ସମ୍ଭାବ୍ୟ କ୍ଷତି ଜଣାଯାଇନଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଶିଶୁର କ୍ଷତି ହୋଇପାରେ ।^[୪] ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ନାଇଟ୍ରାଇଟ ପ୍ରଥମେ ମେଥେମୋଗ୍ଲୋବିନ ସୃଷ୍ଟି କରେ ଯାହା ସାଇନାଇଡ ସ‌ହା ଅନୁବନ୍ଧିତ ହୋଇଯାଏ ଓ ଏହାକୁ ମାଇଟୋକଣ୍ଡ୍ରିଆରୁ (mitochondria) ବାହାର କରିଦିଏ ।^[୪]

୧୯୨୦ ଓ ୧୯୩୦ ଶତକରୁ ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ନାଇଟ୍ରାଇଟ ଚିକିତ୍ସା କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାର ହୋଇଆସୁଛି ।^[୫]^[୬] ଏହାର ନାମ ବିଶ୍ୱ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସଂଗଠନର ଅତ୍ୟାବଶ୍ୟକୀୟ ଔଷଧ ଚିଠାରେ (World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines) ଅଛି ଯାହା ମୌଳିକ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସିସ୍ଟମ (health system) ନିମନ୍ତେ ଅତି ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ।^[୭] ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ଯୁକ୍ତରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର ଆମେରିକାରେ ଥାୟୋସଲଫେଟ ଓ ସୋଡ଼ିଅମ ନାଇଟ୍ରାଇଟର ମୂଲ୍ୟ ୧୧୦ ଆମେରିକୀୟ ଡଲାର ।^[୮]
