Dear Ansuman I am glad you are taking interest in making Odia Wikipedia a great place. But dear friend for your kind information we have so many things on Odia wiki now which are either obsolete words and or are something which is being used by only a handful of people anywhere in Odisha. Thanks for your concern, but is there any writen evidence as to who coined the use of these words in Wikipedia ? Were these words in use since the beginning of the Odia Wikipedia or were they added later on ? Do you not think that these words are OBSOLETE in this era ? Have you ever welcomed someone at your place by saying PACHHOTA, or showed your respect by saying OLIGI ? These words must be changed, and as you said we need to discuss ... discuss with whom ? does any one mam own the WIKIPEDIA ? It is you, me and us. So if we change why it can not be accepted ? I sincerely beg apology but I feel Wikipedia is being harnessed by a group of people who are doing what ever they think is correct and you know why WIKIPEDIA in ODIA has failed so badly ? Initially so many people wanted it to thrive and also agreed to provide content too, but then this language thing came in and everyone thought we are taking WIKIPEDIA to an unseen era in Odisha HISTORY.

I am sorry to say that, Wikipedia has reallly failed in bringing people together only because this policy and this is not the fault of Wikipedia but a group of people who think Wikipedia is their own and they can do anything. When people like us try to change something you revert back to the previous version claiming that there should be a consensus, have our conscience gone dead ? What consensus do we need to spell SWAGAT instead of PACCHOOTA... ? Buddy, it is time we grow up and see the Wiki in a new light, else it will take ages to get this thing working and a group of people though can create links can not provide all the content that makes wikipedia really worthwhile. And why should you wait for long for a consensus, if so then why did not you ask for a consensus on the changes that I made, why did you revert back to the old format instantly? Why did not you wait and see the reaction of the so called active members of the Odia Wikipedia ? Why should one be patient if his writing is getting disturbed and while the requests go into dumb ears ? Why do you think will I feel ok waiting for the change to come ? As a member of Odia wikipedia I also have the same rights as anyone else to make changes for good. No one can change that. Will you be happy if someone constantly change your writings on wikipedia, citing things like you need a common consensus ? Buddy, don't fool us and yourself. There is no consensus here, anything which remains is vandalism. Trying to get your own say heard while others, may go to hell. Grow up....

Berlin hackathon invitation

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!.

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.
