ସମଗ୍ର ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ବଣି ଦେଖାଯାଆନ୍ତି । ବଣି ଜଙ୍ଗଲରେ ବାସ କରିବାକୁ ଭଲପାଆନ୍ତିନାହିଁ । ସାଧାରଣତଃ ଜନବସତି ଅଞ୍ଚଳରେ ଥିବା ଗଛମାନଙ୍କରେ ନୀଡ଼ ବାନ୍ଧନ୍ତି । ବିଦ୍ୟୁତ୍ ଖୁଣ୍ଟ, ଘରର ପାରାପେଟି ଆଦିରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ବଣିମାନେ ରହୁଥିବା ଦେଖାଯାଏ । ପୋକଜୋକ, ଫଳ, ମଣିଷର ଖାଦ୍ୟର ଅବଶେଷ, ଶସ୍ୟ କଣିକା ଉପରେ ବଣିମାନେ ନିର୍ଭରଶୀଳ । ରଙ୍ଗ ଓ ଆକାର ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରୁ ମାଈ ଓ ଅଣ୍ଡିରା ବଣି ଉଭୟ ସମାନ । ବଣିମାନେ ସାଧାରଣତଃ ଗ୍ରୀଷ୍ମ ଋତୁରେ ବସା ବାନ୍ଧନ୍ତି । ମାଈବଣି ଥରକେ ୪-୫ଟି ଗାଢ଼ ନୀଳରଙ୍ଗର ଡିମ୍ବ ପାରିଥାଏ । 'କିକ୍-କିକ୍-କିକ୍' ଶବ୍ଦରୁ ବଣିଙ୍କ ଉପସ୍ଥିତି ବାରିହୋଇପଡେ । ବଣିମାନେ ଯୋଡ଼ି ଯୋଡ଼ି ବୁଲିବାକୁ ପସନ୍ଦ କରନ୍ତି । ଯୋଡ଼ିବଣି ଦେଖିବା ଶୁଭ ବୋଲି ଓଡ଼ିଆଙ୍କ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ । [୧]
