{{{text}}} |
This ଛାଞ୍ଚ employs intricate features of template syntax.
You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with its setup and parser functions before editing the template. If your edit causes unexpected problems, please undo it quickly, as this template may appear on a large number of pages. You can conduct experiments, and should test all major changes, in either this template's sandbox, the general template sandbox, or your user space before changing anything here. |
This template is used to configure the articles found in the Selected person or Selected biography section found on most Wikipedia Portal main pages. Use it on the article pages that are linked to the Selected person sub-page, e.g. Portal:Foo/Selected person/1. For the quickest and easiest way to create the Portal:Foo/Selected bar sub-page and related article links, use one of the {{Numbered subpages}} templates.
Template layout
[ସମ୍ପାଦନା]{{Selected biography | image = | size = | side = | caption = | name = | born = <!--- Required if using "died" ---> | died = | text = <!--- Required ---> | link = <!--- Required ---> | page = | archive = }}
Additionally, the following templates can be used in the born and died fields:
For the born field:
- {{birth date}}
- {{birth date and age}}
For the died field:
- {{death date}}
- {{death date and age}}
Usage
[ସମ୍ପାଦନା]It is unnecessary to include braces, quotation marks or other wiki-markup in the template. The |text= field does allow the use of wiki-markup at the contributor's discretion.
- image - Places an image relating to the subject of the article on the left side of the section.
- size - Sets the image size, if left out or left blank it will default to 250px.
- side - Set the location of the image here, it will default to left if no side is specified. Use right or center as the variable.
- caption- Creates a caption for the image.
- name - Adds the name of the person at the top left corner of the article, automatically bolded
- born - Adds the person's birth date, format is at contributor's discretion. Requires the name field.
- died - Adds the person's death date, format is at contributor's discretion. Requires the born and name fields.
- text - A brief summary of the subject.
- link - Sets the link in the Read more... that points to the full article. Required.
- archive - Using this field with a value of no will remove the More selected biographies... link in the lower left corner. Use this field if you are using the |footer= parameter in the {{random box-header subpage}} template on the main portal page.
Examples
[ସମ୍ପାଦନା]Long form
[ସମ୍ପାଦନା]The long form of this template places the subjects name immediately to the left of the portrait and gives you the option of adding birth and death years. If the |born= field is not included, the template will not include the |died= field.
{{Selected biography | image = Mark Twain, Brady-Handy photo portrait, Feb 7, 1871, cropped.jpg | size = | caption = Mark Twain, detail of photo by [[Mathew Brady]], February 7, 1871 | name = Samuel Langhorne Clemens | born = {{birth date|1835|11|30}} | died = {{death date and age|1910|4|21|1835|11|30}} | text = Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by the [[pen name]] '''Mark Twain''', ... | link = Mark Twain }}
Will yield this:
Samuel Langhorne Clemens b. ନଭେମ୍ବର ୩୦, ୧୮୩୫ – d. ୨୧ ଅପ୍ରେଲ ୧୯୧୦ (ବୟସ ୭୪) Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by the pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. Twain is most noted for his novels Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which has since been called the Great American Novel, During his lifetime, Twain became a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists and European royalty. Twain enjoyed immense public popularity, and his keen wit and incisive satire earned him praise from both critics and peers. American author William Faulkner called Twain "the father of American literature." |
Because the |name= field formats the subject's name so that it is in bold text, it is suggested that you do not put the subject's name in bold in the text of the article.
