The {{FraAbbr}} template attempts to generate the ISO 3166-2 suffix for a named département or overseas territory of France, for use in the region: parameter of {{Coord}}.

Usage

The first template parameter specifies the name of the département or overseas territory, such as "Somme" or "Pas-de-Calais", thus:

• {{FraAbbr|Somme}} yields -80
• {{FraAbbr|Pas-de-Calais}} yields -62

If the first parameter is not the name of the département or overseas territory, the transclusion will yield an empty string.

Attempts have been made to recognize variations commonly seen in infoboxes, such as:

• [[Somme (département)|Somme]]
• [[Pas-de-Calais]]

So far, however, the template has failed to keep up with the ingenuity of infobox creators.
