୧୯୪୫ ନଭେମ୍ବର ୧୬ ରେ ଜାତିସଂଘ ଶିକ୍ଷା, ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ଓ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ ସଙ୍ଗଠନ ୟୁନେସ୍କୋ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠା କରାଯାଇଥିଲା । ଶିକ୍ଷା, ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ଓ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକ୍ରମ ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ବିଶ୍ଵରେ ଶାନ୍ତି ଓ ନିରାପତ୍ତା ବଜାୟ ରଖିବା ଏବଂ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଦେଶ ସହ ସୁସମ୍ପର୍କ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠା କରିବା ଥିଲା ଏହି ସଙ୍ଗଠନର ମୂଖ୍ୟ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟ । [୧]ତା'ଛଡା ସାମାଜିକ ନ୍ୟାୟ, ମାନବିକ ଅଧିକାର, ସୁରକ୍ଷା ଓ ମୌଳିକ ଅଧିକାର ପାଇଁ ମଧ୍ୟ ସଙ୍ଗଠନ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରୁଛି । ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ଏହାର ସଦସ୍ୟ ସଂଖ୍ୟ ହେଉଛି ୧୯୫ ।[୨] ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଦେଶରେ ଏହାର ଜାତୀୟ ଓ ଆଞ୍ଚଳିକ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟାଳୟ ମଧ୍ୟ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠା କରାଯାଇଛି । ତା'ଛଡା ସାକ୍ଷାରତା ପ୍ରଯୁକ୍ତିବିଦ୍ୟା,ଶିକ୍ଷକ ତାଲିମ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକ୍ରମ, ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତୀୟ ବିଜ୍ଞାନ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକ୍ରମ ,ଗଣମାଧ୍ୟମର ସ୍ଵାଧୀନତା ଓ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ ବିବିଧତାର ବିକାଶ , ସାହିତ୍ୟ କୃତିର ଅନୁବାଦ ଏବଂ ବିଶ୍ଵ ଓ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ତଥା ଐତିହ୍ୟ ସ୍ଥଳୀର ସୁରକ୍ଷା ପାଇଁ ଏହା କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରି ଆସୁଛି । [୩]
