ବିଅର ପୃଥିବୀର ସବୁଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ପିଆଯାଉଥିବା, [୧] ଓ ସବୁଠାରୁ ପୁରାତନ [୨][୩][୪][୫] ସୁରାସାର ଜାତୀୟ ପାନୀୟ; ପିଇବା ପାଣି ଓ ଚା' ପରେ ଏହା ୩ୟ ସବୁଠାରୁ ଜଣାଶୁଣା ପାନୀୟ ।[୬] ଏହା ଶର୍କରାର ବ୍ରୁଇଙ୍ଗ ଓ ଫରମେଣ୍ଟେସନ ପ୍ରକ୍ରିୟାକାରଣରୁ ବାହାରି ଥାଏ, ଏହା ମଲ୍ଟ ଶସ୍ୟ ଯଥା, ଯଅ, ଗହମରୁ ବାହାରି ଥାଏ । ଶର୍କରା ଭାବରେ ଦାମ କମ ଥିବାରୁ ମକା ଓ ଚାଉଳ ସାଧାରଣତ ଏହା ସହିତ ମିଶାଯାଇଥାଏ । ଅଧିକାଂଶ ବିଅର ହୋପରେ ମିଶାଯାଇଥାଏ, ଯାହା ବିଅରରେ ପିତା ସୁଆଦ ଦେଇଥାଏ ଓ ଏକ ପ୍ରାକୃତିକ ସଂରକ୍ଷଣ ପାଇଁ ସାହାଯ୍ୟ କରିଥାଏ । ମାନବ ଜଗତର ସବୁଠାରୁ ପୁରାତନ ରଚନାରେ ବିଅରର ଉତ୍ପାଦନ ଓ ବଣ୍ଟନ ବାବଦରେ ବଖଣାଯାଇଛି: ହାମୁରାବିର ନୀତିରେ ବିଅରର ଉତ୍ପାଦନ ଓ ବିଅର ପାର୍ଲର ବାବଦରେ ନୀତିବଳି ଥିଲା ।[୭] "ନିଙ୍କାସିର ମନ୍ତ୍ର",କେତେକ ଶିକ୍ଷିତ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଚଳଣିରେ ମେସୋପଟାମିଆର ବିଅର ଦେବୀଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଏହି ମନ୍ତ୍ରରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା ଗାନ କରି ବିଅର ପରସାଯାଇଥାଏ । [୮][୯] ଆଜିକାଲି, ବ୍ରୁଇଙ୍ଗ ଶିଳ୍ପ ଏ ଜଗତସାରାର ବଣିଜ ପାଲଟିଛି । ଏଥିରେ ଅନେକ ବହୁଦେଶୀୟ କର୍ପୋରେସନ ଓ ହଜାର ହଜାର ଛୋଟ ଛୋଟ ଉତ୍ପାଦକ ବ୍ରୁପବରୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରି ଆଞ୍ଚଳିକ ବ୍ରିଉଋରହିଛନ୍ତି ।
ବିଅରରେ ଆୟତନ ଅନୁସାରେ ୪ %- ୬ % ସୁରସର ଥାଏ । କେତେକ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଏହା ୧ % ରୁ ୨୦ % ଯାଏଁ ହୋଇଥାଏ ।
