ପାଞ୍ଚ ବର୍ଷ ଧରି ସେ ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ର ଦୁନିଆରୁ ବାହାରେ ରହିବା ପରେ ୧୯୭୬ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟାବ୍ଦରେ ଫେରିଆସି କେତେକ ଚରିତ୍ର ଭୂମିକା ନିର୍ବାହ କରିଥିବା ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ରମାନଙ୍କ ନାମ ଯଥାକ୍ରମେ କ୍ରାନ୍ତି (Kranti – ୧୯୮୧), ଶକ୍ତି (Shakti – ୧୯୮୨), ମାର୍ଶାଲ (Mashaal – ୧୯୮୪), କର୍ମା (Karma – ୧୯୮୬) ଓ ସୌଦାଗର (Saudagar – ୧୯୯୧) । ତାଙ୍କର ଶେଷ ଅଭିନୀତ ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ରର ନାମ କିଲା (Qila – ୧୯୯୮) ଯେଉଁଥିରେ ସେ ଏକ ଦ୍ୱୈତ ଚରିତ୍ରରେ ଅଭିନୟ କରିଥିଲେ ।
ଦିଲୀପ କୁମାରଙ୍କ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ଜୀବନ ସର୍ବଦା ମିଡ଼ିଆ ଚର୍ଚ୍ଚାରେ ରହୁଥିଲା । ଅଭିନେତ୍ରୀ ଓ ସହ-ଅଭିନେତ୍ରୀ ମଧୁବାଲାଙ୍କ Madhubala ସାଥିରେ ଦୀର୍ଘକାଳର ସମ୍ପର୍କ ନୟାଦୌର (Naya Daur court case) ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ର ପରେ ୧୯୫୭ ମସିହାରେ ସମାପ୍ତ ହୋଇଯାଇଥିଲା ।[୭] ସେ ୧୯୬୬ ମସିହାରେ ଅଭିନେତ୍ରୀ ସାଇରା ବାନୁଙ୍କ (Saira Banu) ସହିତ ବିବାହ କରିବା ପରେ ତାଙ୍କର ବାନ୍ଦ୍ରା ବାସଭବନରେ (Bandra) ମୃତ୍ୟୁ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ (୨୦୨୧ ମସିହା) ରହୁଥିଲେ । ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ର ଜଗତକୁ ତାଙ୍କର ଅବଦାନ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଭାରତ ସରକାର ତାଙ୍କୁ ୧୯୯୧ ମସିହାରେ ପଦ୍ମ ଭୂଷଣ (Padma Bhushan) ଓ ୨୦୧୫ ମସିହାରେ ପଦ୍ମ ବିଭୂଷଣ (Padma Vibhushan) ପଦବୀରେ ସମ୍ମାନିତ କରିଥିଲେ ଯାହାକି ଦେଶର ଦ୍ଵିତୀୟ ଓ ତୃତୀୟ ସର୍ବୋଚ୍ଚ ନାଗରିକ ସମ୍ମାନ । ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ର ଜଗତକୁ ଅବଦାନ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଭାରତର ସର୍ବୋଚ୍ଚ ସମ୍ମାନ ଦାଦାସାହେବ ଫାଲକେ ପୁରସ୍କାର (Dadasaheb Phalke Award) ୧୯୯୪ ମସିହାରେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଦିଆଯାଇଥିଲା । ପାକିସ୍ଥାନ ସରକାର ୧୯୯୮ ମସିହାରେ ସେ ଦେଶର ସର୍ବୋଚ୍ଚ ନାଗରିକ ସମ୍ମାନ ନିଶାନ-ଏ-ଇମତିଆଜ (Nishan-e-Imtiaz) ଦିଲ୍ଲୀପଙ୍କୁ ଦେଇ ସମ୍ମାନିତ କରିଥିଲେ ଓ ସେ ଏକମାତ୍ର ଭାରତୀୟ ଯିଏ କି ସେହି ସମ୍ମାନର ଅଧିକାରୀ ହୋଇଛନ୍ତି ।
