From an early age, Kahnucharan was fascinated by literature. He was impressed by the composition of Fakir Mohan Senapati. Some of his poems were published in school magazines while studying at the Parimohan Academy. But he did not continue to write poetry. He thought that if I could not write poetry in Sanskrit, he could not be called a real poet. He later realized that the novel could also be written in the language spoken by his mother, aunt, and grandfather. Then his writing moved and created one novel after another.

କାହ୍ନୁଚରଣ ମହାନ୍ତି ମହାନଦୀ କୁଳର "ନାଗବଳି" ନାମକ ଏକ ଗାଆଁରେ ୧୯୦୬ ମସିହା ଅଗଷ୍ଟ ୧୧ତାରିଖରେ ଜନ୍ମ ହୋଇଥିଲେ । ସେ କଟକର ପ୍ୟାରୀମୋହନ ଏକାଡେମୀରେ ପାଠ ପଢିଥିଲେ ।

ସାହିତ୍ୟ ସର୍ଜନା

ଶୈଶବରୁ କାହ୍ନୁଚରଣ ସାହିତ୍ୟପ୍ରତି ଆକୃଷ୍ଟ ଥିଲେ । ଫକୀର ମୋହନ ସେନାପତିଙ୍କ ରଚନାରୁ ସେ ପ୍ରଭାବିତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ । ପ୍ୟାରୀମୋହନ ଏକାଡେମୀରେ ପାଠ ପଢିବାବେଳେ ତାଙ୍କର କେତୋଟି କବିତା ବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟ ପତ୍ରିକାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା । କିନ୍ତୁ ସେ କବିତା ଲେଖିବା ଜାରୀ ରଖିନଥିଲେ । ତାଙ୍କୁ ଲାଗୁଥିଲା ଯଦି ସଂସ୍କୃତରେ କବିତା ଲେଖିନପାରିଲି, ତେବେ ସେ ଜଣେ ପ୍ରକୃତ କବି ବୋଲାଇପାରିବେ ନାହିଁ । ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ସମୟରେ ତାଙ୍କର ହୃଦବୋଧ ହେଲା ଯେ, ତାଙ୍କ ମା ମାଉସୀ, ବାପା ଦାଦି କହୁଥିବା ଭାଷାରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଗପ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ ଲେଖାଯାଇପାରିବ । ତାପରେ ତାଙ୍କ ଲେଖନୀ ଚଳଚଞ୍ଚଳ ହୋଇଉଠିଲା ଓ ସୃଷ୍ଟି ହୋଇ ଚାଲିଲା ଗୋଟିକ ପରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ ।
