ପୋଟାସିଅମ ଆୟୋଡାଇଡ (Potassium iodide) ଏକ ରାସାୟନିକ ଯୌଗିକ ପଦାର୍ଥ (chemical compound), ଔଷଧ (medication) ଓ ଖାଦ୍ୟ ପରିପୂରକ (dietary supplement) । ^[୧]^[୨] ଔଷଧ ହିସାବରେ ଏହା ହାଇପରଥାଇରଏଡିଜ୍ମ (hyperthyroidism) ଓ କେତେକ ଔଷଧ (radiopharmaceutical) ଯୋଗୁ ରାଡିଏସନ ଏମରଜେନ୍ସି (radiation emergencies) ଉତ୍ପନ୍ନ ହେଉଥିବାରୁ ଥାଇରଏଡ ଗ୍ରନ୍ଥିର (thyroid gland) ସୁରକ୍ଷା ନିମନ୍ତେ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାର କରାଯାଏ ।^[୩] ବିକାଶଶୀଳ ଦେଶମାନଙ୍କରେ ଚର୍ମ ରୋଗ ସ୍ପୋରୋଟ୍ରାକୋସିସ (sporotrichosis) ଓ ଫାଇକୋମାଇକୋସିସ (phycomycosis) ରୋଗରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ । ^[୩]^[୪] ଯେଉଁ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଖାଦ୍ୟରେ ଆୟୋଡିନ (iodine) ଅଭାବ ଥାଏ ସେଠାରେ ଏହା ପରିପୂରକ ଭାବରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୨] ଏହା ପାଟିରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୩]

ପୋଟାସିଅମ ଆୟୋଡାଇଡର ସାଧାରଣ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟାର ବାନ୍ତି, ତରଳ ଝାଡ଼ା, ପେଟ ଯନ୍ତ୍ରଣା, ରାସ୍ ଓ ଲାଳ ଗ୍ରନ୍ଥି (salivary gland) ଫୁଲିବା ଦେଖାଯାଏ ।^[୩] ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟା ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଆଲର୍ଜି ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟା, ମୁଣ୍ଡବଥା, ଗଏଟର (goitre) ଓ ଅବସାଦ (depression) ହୋଇପାରେ ।^[୪] ଗର୍ଭାବସ୍ଥାରେ ଏହା ଶିଶୁପ୍ରତି କ୍ଷତିକାରକ ହେଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ରାଡିଏସନ ଏମରଜେନ୍‌ସିରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୩] ପୋଟାସିଅମ ଆୟୋଡାଇଡର ରାସାୟନିକ ଫର୍ମୁଲା chemical formula ହେଲା କେଆଇ K I ।^[୫] ପୋଟାସିଅମ ହାଇଡ୍ରକ୍ସାଇଡ (potassium hydroxide) ସ‌ହିତ ଆୟୋଡିନ ମିଶେଇ ବ୍ୟବସାୟୀକ ଭିତ୍ତିରେ ପୋଟାସିଅମ ଆୟୋଡାଇଡ ତିଆରି କରାଯାଏ ।^[୬]

ସନ ୧୮୨୦ରୁ ଚିକିତ୍ସା କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ପୋଟାସିଅମ ଆୟୋଡାଇଡ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାର ହୋଇଆସୁଛି ।^[୭] ଏହାର ନାମ ବିଶ୍ୱ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସଂଗଠନର ଅତ୍ୟାବଶ୍ୟକୀୟ ଔଷଧ ଚିଠାରେ (World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines) ଅଛି ଯାହା ମୌଳିକ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସିସ୍ଟମ (health system) ନିମନ୍ତେ ଅତି ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ।^[୮] ଏହା ଜେନେରିକ ଔଷଧ ନାମରେ (generic medication) ବିକ୍ରୟ ହୁଏ । ଯୁକ୍ତରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର ଆମେରିକାରେ ଏହି ଔଷଧର ଏକ କୋର୍ଷ ବାବଦ ୨୫ ଆମେରିକୀୟ ଡଲାରରୁ କମ୍ ଖର୍ଚ୍ଚ ହୁଏ ।^[୯] ଲୁଣରେ ଏହା ମିଶେଇ (iodization of salt) ପୋଟାସିମ ଆୟୋଡାଇଡ କରିବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ମଧ୍ୟ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାର ହୁଏ । ^[୨]
