English: The Prahallada Nataka is a critically endangered folk theatre form of the Ganjam district of Odisha in which the tale of Vishnu's man-lion incarnation Nrusingha (alternatively spelled Narasimha) is enacted. The play can last for well over 20 hours at a stretch and the costumes, music, movements & dialogues are complex. This image is of the scene in which Hiranyakasipu placates his wife Lilabati. The character of Hiranyakasipu is being enacted by Mr. A. Rajendra Patra. The image was captured in the Nimakhandapenthi village of Digapahandi block in Ganjam district, Odisha on 27th February 2018 under a crowdfunded project to document the entire performance of Prahallada Nataka that is in vogue today.
